I will start by pointing out that I am in no way a guru or a dermatologist but I have done a few research here and there to know that having a routine least twice a day really improves your skin. Turns out there are a few things that are really important.
Routine
According to a research carried out by Messaraa(2019) having a skin care routine helps in improving hydration. Their research compared two routines that had simple routine that only had the use of two products ( cleansing and straight to day cream)and it was done once a day while advanced routine used( toner,eye cream, moisturizer and sunscreen) and done twice a day. The advanced routine improved the topographic parameters of the skin and improve reduction in roughness.
Cleanser
The cleansing step is important in removing excess sebum in the morning while cleansing at night help in removing pollution particles and oxidized lipids.
Toning
Infuses the skin with the first load of hydration. ( I personally skip this step mostly, I don't use a toner unless i have neglected my skin for days which I try to avoid).
Sunscreen
I have learnt that it is an important part of the day skin routine, I don't know how I was living without it. We all need the protection from the rays of the sun.
Serums
It helps with the delivery of relevant activities to the skin.
All these are important and the increase of lifestyle bloggers sharing what worked for them has fueled hyper dive into buying either expensive or useless products that don't work on your skin.
Every one is different and the key to a beautiful skin is to listen and learn how your skin acts and why it acts up.Another important thing that am learning to live with is that not all days will be perfect with flawless skin.😊
